"Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him to help you to do it and He will." Psalm 37.5
Dear Friends in Christ,July 30, 2010
Today is a very special day for me! You see 15 years ago today I went through a long, grueling surgery to remove Two large tumors. After the surgery, the surgeon told my family that I had possibly SIX Months to live. I was not told this until nearly five years later and I am very glad that I didn't know this at the time.
My frist reaction upon learning that I had cancer was despair. My mother had died of cancer at 32 and I could not bear the thought of leaving my babies (who were 7 months and 3 years old) without a mother. I then realized that I must put my life in the hands of the Lord. There was a great sense of relief knowing that I was not alone in this. The Lord opens doors and gives us tools to work with. He gives us strength. I decided to do whatever it took to fight this disease with the help of the Lord.
Your prayers, cards, and support helped sustain me in this fight. I prayed, read positive educational books, joined a support group at the Wellness Community and attended seminars and nutrition classes. After SIX long months, my chemotherapy was finally over. A kind of waiting game began. The simplest aches and pains would bring on fears of the cancer returning. My main goal was to make it to the FIVE year mark. Then I would be home free. That day has come and gone!
Actually, amny positive things have come from having cancer. Most importantly I know that the Lord is always with me. He answers prayers - although sometimes the answers are not quite what you want ot hear. I've learned to appreciate and savor the simplist pleasures in life -- watching the kids wrestle with theirDad, running on a cool peaceful morning, just taking a little queit time to read.
Druing these times, I just sit and realize how blessed we are and it brings such joy and peace. Having fun is also a priority, it enhances the quality and enjoyment of life. I have been blessed with a loving, supportive family. They cared for me and were there for me when I needed them most. My husband, Steve, is my Rock... my children, my inspiration.
Faith and love have seen us through. For some unknown reason I have been given the gift of life again. Lord, I thank you and praise You! I Love You with all my heart!
Love in Christ,
Sharon Harris
