Pastor Chris
I am glad that you stopped by! Let me tell you a little about who I am and why I became a servant of God. I have been blessed to serve Jesus since 1978. I began serving God by being trained as a youth leader by "Youth for Christ" in 1978 and became a Youth Director of a church in Turlock, CA in 1981. I went to Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and graduated in 1988. I have served as a pastor since 1989 to the present. I have been at Good Shepherd for over 10 years and have enjoyed serving the people and community of San Pedro.
If you don't have a church home, I invite you to come and visit us. We are truly a welcoming community. Every pastor desires their congregation to be a welcoming community, but let me share a quote from one of our recent visitors.
Mr. H. shared with me the other day, "If there were a church like Good Shepherd where he lived, he would come as often as he could. I love the fact that you can come in shorts, flip flops, t-shirts and just be yourself!" 10/11/09
I love who Jesus is in my life and the way the first four books of the New Testament (4 Gospels) reveal the depth of His Love for us. The Gospels remind us how much God loves us more than any of us could begin to imagine. It has been my faith experience to witness the significant difference it makes to have Jesus the Christ (Savior/Messiah) to be in my life and in the lives of others.
What does it mean to have Jesus in my life? Having Jesus in my life simply reminds me that I don't have to be perfect but strive to Love all of God's creation. Knowing Jesus and having Him in my heart challenges me to live out the "Great Commandment" every day of my life. The "Great Commandment" is: "To Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind and your neighbor as yourself." This is a tall order in which I seldom fulfill completely every day, but with the Grace of God I can strive toward it every day. If you ask who is my neighbor, it is anyone you meet. The challenge is great but knowing that I am not alone in my endeavor to live out the"Great Commandment",it provides me great hope for who Christ is in my life and the life of others.
Have a great day and go and live out the Great Commandment and if you don't have a church home, come and drop by just as you are and let God in Christ do the rest! See you soon!
Pastor Chris
