"The Way Home"
We at Good Samaritan Counseling Center (G.S.C.C.) believe that the journey of life is as brilliant and wondrous as the place we imagine we are going. Caring counselors journey with individuals and families through the most hopeless and tortuous times. We also share the road with many who are less wouned but seek better ways to find blessings and bless others on their way. As caregivers and fellow sojourners, the staff members of the G.S.C.C. endeavor to serve God and all those who are companions on the many ways we travel on The Way Home.
Our History
G.S.C.C. was founded in 1954, and our staff members have actually provided care continuously in this area since 1958! We have a proven history of clinical success and the ability to respond to clients from different faith traditions, as well as meet the needs of referral sources, which are intent upon finding clinicians they can trust.
Every few years we face the challenge and opportunity of describing what makes a pastoral counseling center unique and so effective for people in need of qualified clinical care. "Pastoral Counseling" is a professional tradition that has nurtured therapists in the disciplines of secular psychology and the most spiritual beliefs about healing.
Therefore, we are not really ministers who counsel or counselors who minister. Our professional training and our practice return clinical care to its origins - the human experience of the unity of hope, healing, and renewal within the wisdom and Spirit of God. "Psychology" is literally the 'study and understanding of the soul" in the lives of God's people.
It is the healing of the soul or vital essence of each person that renews life when nothing else seems to be working. Healing is best understood, therefore, as "psychotherapy," the profound experience of soul-change. God's abiding care for the soul of humankind is at the very core of faith for believers from all religions.
Providing the Best Possible Pastoral Care
We strive to provide the very best care in all that we do. Our counselors and therapists are clinically qualified, licensed and certified, and represent a wide range of religious traditions. We honor the standards of the interfaith American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and several of our caregivers are ordained clergy. By using a team approach to staff development and interdisciplinary clinical consultation, our staff strives to provide the very best care to people in emotional and spiritual struggle.

Our Locations
All of our offices are in spaces provided and donated by various religious congregations. Together with monetary donations, these donations of space in houses of worship and safety help us to fulfill our promise to serve those with limited resources. We have offices in San Pedro, Palos Verdes Estates, Torrance and two locations in Long Beach.
Applicable Fees
We charge usual fees for our professional clinical services, and this is the source of support for our agency operation and staff members. But, NO ONE is turned away who can use our services due to financial hardship that prevents them paying the full fees! In these situations of special material need, each client and patient pays what they can afford. Call it a "sliding scale" or "fee assistance" or "financial support" ... If you or the person you refer can use our care, that person will receive it, and for as long as is clinically necessary. We hope that is clear. Some services qualify for insurance.
